Overall, I would definitely recommend this book, especially for anyone who wants to learn a bit more about the history behind ghosts, especially from different backgrounds and cultures. It didn't go into as much detail as I'd hoped - I thought we'd get a few more in depth case studies/stories told in a more compelling way, but it was very much "here's the fact, move on" with some puns thrown in. Like Adam Allsuch Boardman’s earlier work with Nobrow Press, An Illustrated History of UFOs, An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a stylishly produced, colorful piece of graphic art that provides a basic but thorough introduction to ghostly myths and legends throughout the world. If you believe Wordfence should be allowing you access to this site, please let them know using the steps below so they can investigate why this is happening. I would have loved to see the graphic novel go a bit or in-depth with some of the writing and details but without it just makes it an excellent starting guide and introduction to ghosts and ghost hunting.

Sometimes the formatting was hard to follow, some pages the information went across and others it went down the page. The illustrations were simple but fun but again could have been better in some places as more detail was needed in some areas of the book visually. With the quality binding and illustrations, I had higher expectations for the content, but many of the facts and stories presented here barely go beyond passing mentions. It is not really a book for somebody who has a deep knowledge on the topic already, more of a general overview, but it is still, in my opinion, worth picking up, especially for Halloween time. I think this one appealed to me a little bit more, guess I’m just more of a ghost fan than aliens, but I feel that each of these works, with their useful glossaries and resources, would be quite appropriate for teens and preteens who are interested in outré subjects.and the illustrations don't really get across the impact of some of the things we're reading about (such as ghost photos etc).

It's the first time I've seen explanations from different cultures and belief systems in such depth, usually you only hear of the traditional western (often religious) and maybe some Japanese myths and traditions, both make up the majority of horror media we see today. I would have loved to read something like this when I was younger and in my first moment of awe and insistence of watching ghost hunting videos and shows and adamant that ghosts and spirits are real. There are currently two other Illustrated History books by Adam Allsuch Boardman, filmmaking and UFOs. This would make a fun gift for that friend that loves to watch unsolved mysteries or ghost hunter TV shows, or to those who are interested in dipping their toe into this area. I guess I just read too many magic books as a kid and am used to the "A good magician never reveals his secrets" stick.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Veterans who know Boardman's work will likely really enjoy this as it's clearly a good quality output, just not to my taste.

I’ve shared a couple of pages in the slides to illustrate that; I found a lot of the historical parts about how different cultures approach the concept of ghosts really interesting, but as a noted pop culture fiend, I particularly enjoyed all the mentions of ghost related books and films a lot too! My favourite thing about this book is that whilst it is marketed as adult fiction and was perfectly suitable for 20 year old me, my 17 year old brother (who normally has an aversion to reading) sat down with it for 45 minutes flickering through and having conversations with me about how certain elements matched his computer games or things he’d seen on tv and we really enjoyed flipping through the book together because of this vibrant, sectioned format.

An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a cute little book which was a surface and light read about the history of ghosts. This book has been put together in a fantastic way and the text complements the illustrations perfectly. This graphic novel goes through detailed accounts of past and present experiences of ghosts with some wonderful artwork to accompany it. It never really dived into any of the stories/techniques/technology it was telling us about, so we only get a surface level of everything. Those who already know a good bit may find some interesting information on where certain ghosts originated from and more!
